The Crooked Trees of Saskatchewan in Canada are a botanical oddity wrapped in conspiracy and folklore. The grove of trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx. for all you Latin freaks out there) has been kicking about nearby a farm in the Thickwood Hills, northwest of Saskatoon since roughly the 1940s. It truly is strange to see these natural marvels in all its glory. But what makes it even more peculiar is that directly across the road, the trees grow normally.
Local folklore suggests many reasons for the trees' wackiness, ranging from soil contamination to the latent effects of a meteorite crashing into the area to the altered development of the trees being caused by the pee of aliens. Dr. Bill Remphrey offers another take on this, suggesting that the crooked trait stems from a genetic mutation (I'm no scientist but I'd imagine it to be like the whole TMNT deal but with trees instead of turtles).
Whatever the case, finding this grove of pizza-loving, ninja-skilled aspens can be a mission! With various instructions of getting to the site being not very specific such as 'it's north of Hafford, south of Alticane, kinda near Speers and so on', I've managed to track down a map of the exact location of the Crooked Trees for you to enjoy.
If you're still finding it difficult, stop by the super duper friendly gas station at the junction of highways 40 and 340 and they'll be able to point you in the right direction. Now go and get your freak on!
